02/27/2010 - Spokane, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - With their 10th consecutive West Coast Conference regular season title in the bag, the 18th-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs try to keep the momentum going as they play host to the San Francisco Dons tonight at the McCarthy Athletic Center in Spokane.
San Francisco is playing its final game of the 2009-10 docket today, and the team had its modest three-game win snapped on Thursday night at the University of Portland, as the Pilots saddled the Dons with a 70-59 setback. The loss dropped USF to 12-16 on the year and 7-6 in WCC play. The Dons own a 3-9 record in true road games this season, and a victory over the nationally- ranked Bulldogs would give the team some much-needed confidence heading into the WCC Tournament.
Gonzaga secured the top seed in the upcoming conference tourney by whipping visiting Santa Clara on Thursday night, 88-51. The Bulldogs have won six of their last seven games, five of which have been by double figures, and they will close out the regular season on Tuesday night at home against Cal State Bakersfield. The Zags are an impressive 23-5 on the year, and they own a near- flawless 11-1 home record. Their 10 straight conference crowns is the longest current streak in the nation, and tied for third in NCAA Division I history.
San Francisco upset Gonzaga in the first meeting between the two this season, taking an 81-77 decision from the Zags on January 30th. Prior to that win, USF had dropped nine straight to Gonzaga. Overall, the Bulldogs own a 39-21 advantage in the all-time series.
Rashad Green scored 16 points and Kwame Vaughn added 11 more, but those efforts went for naught as the San Francisco Dons fell at Portland on Thursday night by 11 points. USF shot 46.7 percent from the floor, but 19 turnovers and a 24-10 deficit in bench points hurt the Dons' chances at getting closer to the .500 mark on the season. Dior Lowhorn, a 47.4 percent shooter who is averaging a club-best 18.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the season, tallied a mere seven points in the loss to the Pilots. Vaughn (12.4 ppg) is the only double-digit scorer at the moment for the Dons, who are converting 44.8 percent of their total shots in putting up 70.4 ppg. Unfortunately, the team is giving up 72.4 ppg, with its opponents hitting 36.1 percent of their three-point tries and 73.9 percent from the foul line. A +3.9 edge in rebounding gives USF a chance on most nights, but 15 turnovers per outing has hurt the team more times than not.
Steven Gray was the star for Gonzaga in the easy win over Santa Clara on Thursday night, hitting 10-of-12 field goal attempts to finish with 26 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and added a pair of steals to his solid stat line, helping the Bulldogs lay claim to a 43-28 advantage on the boards. Bol Kong came off the bench to chip in 12 points, while Robert Sacre tallied 11 points in just 16 minutes as a starter. The team as a whole shot 57.4 percent from the field, and won the game rather handily despite a poor 13-of-26 showing from the foul line. Defensively, the Zags limited the Broncos to 34 percent accuracy on field goal attempts, and they easily outscored their overmatched opponent in the paint (50-20), off turnovers (22-2) and in second- chance points (19-9). Although he had an off night against SCU (2-of-9 shooting, seven points), Matt Bouldin is GU's leading scorer on the season with his 16.2 ppg, while Elias Harris checks in with 15.0 ppg. Gray adds 13.7 ppg and Sacre another 10.1 ppg for the Bulldogs who are netting an average of 78.2 ppg while yielding 66.9 ppg to foes. The Zags are shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor to this point (.493).

In terms of sports wagering, the NFL is "the most popular game in town." The explanation behind that is easy.
It is called the "pointspread."
Many years ago, NFL games, as well as the more popular college games, used straight odds as a vehicle for betting. For example, if the Bears were playing the Giants, and it shaped up as a competitive contest, the Bears might be, say, a 7/5 favorite. If they were playing an also-ran, it might be 10/1. Well, there is a point where a line becomes prohibitive, as far as betting the favorite. And who would waste money betting an underdog that has virtually no chance? Such a setup did not contribute to promoting betting action.
But in modern sports betting, a "pointspread" is used.
A NFL pointspreads are exactly that, a pre-established point difference between the two sides that will, for all intents and purposes, create a handicap that evens things out, and in doing so, produces comparable wagering activity on both sides of that proposition. So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.
In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.
The establishment of the pointspread as the corner stone around which team sports like football can be wagered upon was truly what brought gridiron betting into the stratosphere for online football betting .

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.
(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977. Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.
Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer. In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.
MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season. Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite. After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.
Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions. They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals. The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
